Term 1 2019 is drawing to a close and as has been the constant theme in the last 12 months a building update is warranted. Building M, the large double story space is now occupied and provided the local community with a bit of a “wow” factor when they came to vote. A general invite was given out to upstairs classrooms parents last week and in the next few weeks we will invite the whole school to visit classrooms. The capital works doesn’t stop there. We have three classes waiting for their upgraded classrooms to be completed which should be ready for the beginning of Term 2.
Last week we bid farewell to seven demountable classrooms and in the coming week the administration demountable will also disappear. The result will be more playground space. The SRC voted last week on a selection of playground equipment for the theses new spaces. The P&C will pass judgement on their choice this week. I plan to sign contracts before the end of this term with installation taking place before the end of Term 2.
I can’t let the moment go without making comment about how motivating it is for all teachers to work in state of the art classrooms.
Next Monday the school will hold an Anzac day service at approximately 9.00am in the large school cola area. Members of the local RSL will be present for the ceremony. All parents are welcome to attend. The term will finish with the Easter Hat Parade for Kindergarten to Year 2 students on Friday 12 March.
On a staffing note I will be taking leave for the whole of Term 2. After 38 years of teaching I need a recharge! Replacing me will be the Principal of Coogee South Public School, Mrs Trish Fisher. Mrs Fisher has considerable experience at the Principal level and with leading large schools. I’m sure Pottsville Beach Public School will enjoy her tenure and welcome her to the North Coast. I look forward to seeing you all again in Term 3.
