This week is Food Allergy week. It is up to all of us to be allergy aware, to know how to minimise the risk of a reaction, to know what to do if a reaction happens, and to understand and support family, friends and colleagues living with food allergies.
Australia has one of the highest incidences of food allergies in the world, which is growing at alarming rates. In fact one in 10 babies born in Australia today will develop a food allergy. Some food allergies can be severe, causing potentially life threatening reactions known as anaphylaxis. During this week all classes will be discussing and undertaking activities that aim to:
- ensure they understand the importance of supporting students with food allergies and to become allergy AWARE
- how they can help children with a food allergy AVOID the trigger
- learn what ACTION to take if someone has a severe allergic reaction/anaphylaxis and the importance of our school rule that we do not share food.
Pottsville Beach is proud to be an allergy aware school.
