Welcome to Week 6!
We’re more than halfway through the term already - can you believe that?! It was so wonderful having our students return last week to get some sort of ‘normal’ back into our lives. There are still some restrictions in place that we have to continue to enforce. These include:
- no parents on school grounds at any time;
- if your child has any flu like symptoms, they must stay home until all symptoms have gone. This includes staff. All staff are required to stay home if they have any flu like symptoms. If this occurs, we do try and get the same casual teachers to minimise any disruption to learning;
- class and stage based sport only with limited physical contact;
- regular hand washing for all students and staff (hand wash and hand sanitiser is available in all classrooms);
- library is open but students are unable to borrow (we are hoping to start borrowing next week but there are still over 500 books outstanding and we need to clean and sanitise them before we can start borrowing again. If you have a library book at home, please return it to the library this week.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. We haven’t been given a timeline for when some of these restrictions will ease but we will keep you updated and when we know, you’ll know.
Keep your eyes out for a virtual assembly that will hopefully be happening in the very near future. As we can’t conduct assemblies at the moment, we would still like to share the award winners with you! It’s one way we’re trying to maintain connections with you.
The Sentral Parent Portal opened this week. The portal will give you the ability to see what days your child has been absent. It will also allow you to put explanations in for why your child/ren are away or will be away. It is important that you provide as much information as possible as we will still need to ‘approve’ the absences (sick, leave approved by Principal, unjustified etc). If your child is absent and or arrives late to school without an explanation, a text message will be sent to you at approximately 10.00am on any given day. Please see the note attached with more information about how to log in. You will have the ability to reply to explain the absence without writing a note or calling. Absences that have not been explained within seven days will automatically become unjustified/unexplained as per Department of Education policy. With any new system, there may be glitches and if you believe you have been sent an absent message in error, please call the office on 6676 1161. Later this term, you will also be able to see all past student reports on the parent portal. The Semester 1 report will also be available in the last week of term. We will also provide you with a hard copy this term. The Semester 1 report will include student self-reflection and also a parent feedback section. We will let you know about how to complete your section in the coming weeks.
